September 18, 2023 - Madera County Sheriff's Office officials report that on September 16, 2023, around 2:30 p.m., Madera County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence in the 28000 block of Avenue 15 following reports of a suspicious person who had been seen on a security camera breaking into a home.

Deputy Martin Gonzalez was first on scene and located the male suspect in a Ford F250. After seeing Deputy Gonzalez, the suspect proceeded to ram the iron gate and patrol car, nearly striking Deputy Gonzalez, in an attempt to flee. The truck was subsequently disabled, and he exited the vehicle.

He was safely taken into custody without further incident. Anthony Angel Carrillo, a 28-year-old Merced resident, was arrested booked at the Madera County Jail on several felony charges including Felony Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer, Residential Burglary, Vandalism, and Motor Vehicle Theft.

Sheriff Tyson Pogue remarks, “We are relieved Deputy Gonzalez was not injured during this incident and applaud his levelheaded response to safely take the suspect into custody. He is a prime example of the caliber of individuals we have on our team, and we are proud to have them serving our community.”
