September 29, 2023 - Fresno Police Department officials report that on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 9:13 a.m., officers from the Southeast Policing District responded to the 4700 block of East Liberty Avenue for a report of a gunshot victim at the location. Officers arrived and found 62-year-old Oscar Martinez seated in a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC), where he was initially listed in critical condition; however, on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and was pronounced deceased at 3:09 p.m.
Through their investigation, detectives learned Martinez was involved in a verbal altercation with another male, which led to the gunfire. Since the shooting, detectives have been actively investigating the case by contacting witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from the surrounding neighborhood. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this shooting to please contact the Fresno Police Department.
