October 5, 2023 - CAL FIRE officials report that when it comes to reforestation, our state is going to need the efforts of everyone. CAL FIRE itself only manages 85k acres of its own land and therefore must rely on private landowners for a vast majority of our cone collection efforts.
That’s where people like Rachael come in! Rachael received a grant from CAL FIRE’s Business and Workforce Development program to start a cone-collecting business that will work with private landowners to collect cones on their property. For this project, Rachael’s team is collecting cones in Plumas County. These cones will be delivered to CAL FIRE’s L.A. Moran Reforestation Center and used to reforest areas affected by the 2021 Dixie fire.
