TRAFFIC ADVISORY 
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Routes 99, 140, & 165 

October 6, 2023 - MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate caltrans logo5 (I-5), State Route 99 (SR-99), SR-140, and SR-165 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

Interstate 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through December 30, 2023.

             o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use either the Westley Rest Area (San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line) or the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). Electric vehicle charging stations are available at the Westley Rest Area.

  • Long-term full on and off-ramp closures on southbound I-5 and SR-165 interchange for construction work beginning Friday, September 29, at 10:00 p.m. through Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 5:00 a.m.
  • Partial off-ramp closure (left and right shoulders) on northbound and southbound I-5 and SR-165 interchange for construction work beginning Monday, October 2, through Thursday, October 5, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023.
  • Long-term full off-ramp closure on northbound I-5 and SR-165 interchange for construction work beginning Friday, October 6, through Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. STATE ROUTE 99
  • Full closure of northbound SR-99 Childs Avenue on and off-ramps for construction work beginning Sunday, October 1, through Monday, October 2, from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., and from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. beginning Monday, October 2, through Friday, October 6, 2023.
  • Long-term full on-ramp closure at southbound SR-99 at Child Avenue for construction through October 29, 2023.
  • Long-term, full closure of southbound SR-99 G Street Under-Crossing on-ramp for construction through November 30, 2023.
  • Long-term, full closure of southbound SR-99 State Route 59/MLK Way on-ramp for construction through October 15, 2023.

Motorists should expect 5- 10-minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or materials and construction related issues.
