October 7, 2023 - On Thursday, October 5, Mariposa County Mountain Crisis Services hosted a "Take Back the Night" event at the Mariposa Courthouse.
Mariposa County Sheriff Jeremy Briese's statement at the event:
"Good evening everyone and thank you all for being here. I just want to say, it is an absolute honor to stand before you tonight as a guest speaker at this remarkable event hosted by Mountain Crisis Services, "Take Back the Night." As we gather here, we unite not only as members of a community but also as champions of change, justice, and hope.
Tonight, we come together to recognize and celebrate the vital role that Mountain Crisis Services plays in our community, serving as an unwavering partner to the Sheriff's Office and the entire Mariposa community. Their dedication to providing support, shelter, and resources to domestic and sexual assault survivors is truly awe-inspiring.
Mountain Crisis Services is more than an organization; it is a beacon of strength, a safe haven, and a powerful advocate for those who have experienced unspeakable traumas. In the face of adversity, they offer survivors a lifeline, helping them find their voice and empowering them to stand against their abusers. This is not just about rebuilding lives; it's about restoring dignity, reclaiming power, and fostering resilience.
In a world that sometimes feels harsh and unforgiving, Mountain Crisis Services reminds us that the bonds of our community can heal wounds and bring light to the darkest of times. As we stand here tonight, we pledge to never give in, never turn a blind eye, and never underestimate the power of solidarity. We stand for a Mariposa where every voice is heard, every survivor is supported, and every abuser is held accountable.
Domestic and sexual violence thrive in silence and isolation. But when we come together, as we are tonight, we shatter that silence and replace it with a resounding call for change. We declare that Mariposa is a community where violence has no place, where survivors are never alone, and where the strength of unity stands as an unyielding force against adversity.
So let us remember why we are here tonight. Let us honor the survivors who have found the courage to share their stories and let us remember those whose voices were silenced. Let us recognize the resilience of the human spirit and the unwavering dedication of Mountain Crisis Services. And let us never give in, but stand together as a community, driving change, fostering empathy, and creating a future free from violence.
Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this remarkable event.
Together, we will continue to uplift, empower, and inspire.
Thank you."- Sheriff Jeremy Briese
