October 9, 2023 - National Weather Service Hanford Office reports temperatures across our area are expected to cool significantly today and Tuesday with high temperatures on Tuesday expected to be below normal for all of our area.

.SYNOPSIS...
A cooling trend is expected today through Wednesday. By Wednesday
afternoon, high temperatures will be six to eight degrees below
normal for this time of year. A few showers can't be ruled out
north of Madera County both this afternoon and Tuesday afternoon.
Strong, gusty winds are possible in the Kern County desert Tuesday
afternoon and Tuesday evening.

.DISCUSSION...
A trough of low pressure will move eastward across Northern
California today. A cyclone aloft will approach the coast of the 
Pacific Northwest Tuesday. This upper-level area of low pressure
will open into a trough of low pressure as it progresses eastward
across the Pacific Northwest Wednesday. Cyclonic flow aloft will
prevail today through Wednesday. There is a slight possibility of
a few showers north of Madera County both this afternoon and
Tuesday afternoon. Strong, gusty winds are conceivable in the Kern
County desert Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday evening. A cooling 
trend is expected today through Wednesday. High temperatures this 
afternoon will be around twenty degrees cooler than yesterday 
afternoon. High temepratures in the San Joaquin Valley Wednesday 
afternoon will be in the mid 70s, which is six to eight degrees 
below normal for this time of year. Here are probabilities of
maximum temperatures of 76 degrees or lower for select locations
in the San Joaquin Valley on Wednesday, October 11th, 2023:

Visalia - 69%

An Eastern Pacific ridge of high pressure will move eastward over
the coast of California Thursday. This ridge of high pressure will
progress eastward into the Great Basin Friday. The ridge of high
pressure will be centered over the Great Plains this weekend. A
warming trend is expected Thursday and Friday. By Friday
afternoon, high temperatures will be two to four degrees above
normal for this time of year. High temperatures will remain above
seasonal values this weekend.
