Three Years Later, 82-Year-Old Man’s Murder Remains Unsolved 

October 13, 2023 - Fresno County Sheriff’s Office officials report that homicide detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office continue to search for FCSO Sanchezanswers in a murder that took place on October 12th, 2020. They need any witnesses or people who have information about the killing of 82-year-old Merced Sanchez to come forward and make a report.

At 5:30 a.m. on Monday, October 12th, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of shots fired on the 6200 block of W. Young Ave. in Raisin City. Patrol deputies arrived and found a man, later identified as Merced Sanchez, next to a vehicle who had been shot to death. Deputies spoke with a family member of the victim who said he was outside checking on his property when they heard gunshots.

Homicide detectives later took over the investigation. They conducted several interviews and collected evidence but were not able to identify a suspect / suspects. A marijuana garden was discovered on the victim’s property and it is believed that played a role in the shooting.
