TRAFFIC ADVISORY 
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Routes 99 & 165 for October 15-21, 2023 

October 13, 2023 - MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), State Route caltrans logo99 (SR-99), and SR-165 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

INTERSTATE 5

  • Long-term full on and off-ramp closures on northbound I-5 and SR-165 interchange for construction work beginning Friday, October 13, at 10:00 p.m. through Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at 5:00 a.m.
  • Full on and off-ramp closures on southbound I-5 and SR-165 interchange for construction work beginning Sunday, October 15, through Tuesday, October 17, 2023, from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through December 30, 2023.

         o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use either the Westley Rest Area (San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line) or the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). Electric vehicle charging stations are available at the Westley Rest Area.

STATE ROUTE 99

Motorists are urged to use extra caution through the following construction area and slow down to a maximum speed of 45 MPH through barricaded, split lanes are in place.

  • Long-term, full closure of southbound SR-99 Childs Avenue Over-Crossing onramp for construction through October 29, 2023.
  • Long-term, full closure of southbound SR-99 G Street Under-Crossing on-ramp for construction through November 30, 2023.
  • Long-term, full closure of southbound SR-99 State Route 59/MLK Way on-ramp for construction through November 1, 2023.
  • Long-term, full closure of southbound SR-99 R Street Under-Crossing on-ramp for construction through November 1, 2023.

  • One-way traffic control from Pole Line Road to Outside Canal Bridge for pavement work beginning Tuesday, October 17, through Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Motorists should expect 5- 10-minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or materials and construction related issues.
