Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Routes 33, 99, 140, 152 & 165 

October 20, 2023 - MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures caltrans logoon Interstate 5 (I-5), State Route 33 (SR-33), SR-99, SR-140, SR-152 and SR-165 for maintenance and construction operations.  Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

INTERSTATE 5

  • Full on and off-ramp closures on southbound I-5 and SR-165 interchange for construction work beginning Sunday, October 22, through Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • Full on and off-ramp closures on northbound I-5 and SR-165 interchange for construction work beginning Sunday, October 22, through Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through December 30, 2023.
    o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use either the Westley Rest Area (San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line) or the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).  Electric vehicle charging stations are available at the Westley Rest Area.

  • One-way traffic control at State Route 152/West for construction beginning Sunday, October 22, through Monday, October 23, from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. and Tuesday, October 24, through Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 7:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.

  • Full on and off-ramp closures on eastbound SR-152 at State Route 33 for construction work beginning Sunday, October 22, through Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • Full on and off-ramp closures on westbound SR-152 at State Route 33 for construction work beginning Sunday, October 22, through Monday, October 23, from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. and Tuesday, October 24, through Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 7:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

STATE ROUTE 165

  • One-way long-term traffic control at Mercy Springs Road Over-Crossing for construction work beginning Sunday, October 22, through Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Motorists should expect 5- 10-minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible.  This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or materials and construction related issues.
