Homicide Investigation
October 28, 2023 – Merced – Merced Police Department officials report that on October 27, 2023, at approximately 11:14 P.M., the Merced Police Department received multiple calls about a shooting near Merced Ave. and Shirley St. in Merced. Officers responded to the area and were able to determine the shooting occurred at a Halloween party in the 1600 block of Shirley St.
An altercation took place between at least two people at the party which led to shots being fired. A 16-year-old and 17-year-old male were struck by gunfire. The 16-year-old had non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to survive. Despite life-saving efforts by emergency medical personnel the 17-year-old succumbed to his injuries on scene.
Detectives and crime scene personnel responded to take over the investigation. Detectives are conducting a thorough canvass of the area for witnesses and video surveillance. This investigation remains ongoing, and no suspects have been identified.
