October 29, 2023 - SACRAMENTO — The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) has announced the approval in late September of $45,483.08 in California Disaster Assistance Act (CDAA) funding to help Tuolumne County cover eligible costs associated with debris removal and property clean-up following the Washington Fire.

The fire, which began in Tuolumne County on August 26, 2021, consumed 100 acres, destroyed residential and commercial structures and prompted evacuations. 

The bulk of the funding approved by Cal OES — $41,348.25 — represents the state’s share of eligible costs related to the county’s fire debris removal and property clean-up efforts. The remaining $4,134.83 in funding approved for the county will help it cover administrative costs related to the project.

CDAA payments are provided based on actual costs incurred by the county and provided by the state as work is completed and as documentation and requests for payment are submitted to Cal OES.  

Governor Gavin Newsom’s State of Emergency Proclamation on August 6, 2021, in conjunction with the Summer 2021 wildfires, authorized CDAA reimbursements for Tuolumne County. Other counties covered by the proclamation included Kern (French Fire), Lassen (Beckwourth Complex Fire), Mendocino (Hopkins Fire), Plumas (Beckwourth Complex Fire), Siskiyou (Lava and River Complex fires) and Tulare (KNP Complex and Windy fires).
