November 2, 2023 - Merced – Merced Police Department officials report that on November 1, 2023, at approximately 2:15 P.M., Merced Police Officers arrested a Merced man on probation for possession of a firearm, ammunition, and narcotics.

On November 1, 2023, Officers with the Gang Violence Suppression Unit received information that Sonny Verver (22) was in the 200 block of Seneca Drive hanging out with friends. Verver, who is on probation, was said to be in possession of a firearm.

Officers and Investigators went to the location on Seneca Drive to see if they could locate Verver. As they arrived in the area, officers saw Verver arriving in a vehicle. When officers went to speak with Verver, he left in that vehicle and eventually fled on foot a short distance away. Officers chased after Verver as he ran into traffic on East Olive Ave. and got into another vehicle. The 2nd vehicle left the area and officers were able to stop it in the 3000 block of Oleander Dr.

After detaining all subjects in the vehicle and conducting a search of the area, officers located a loaded handgun and several baggies of methamphetamine. Verver was booked into Merced County Jail for a violation of his probation along with weapons and narcotics related charges.
