MAC Working Artists

November 10, 2023 - The Mariposa County Planning Department and the Mariposa County Arts Council has been awarded an Our Town grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to work with artists as part of the County/Arts Council’s Working Lands, Working Artists initiative (WLWA), which supports the development and installation of creative placemaking projects and artistic interventions that support the County’s upcoming Agriculture and Working Lands Conservation Plan (AWLCP).

Specifically, the Arts Council and the Planning Department is seeking regional social practice artists to develop public-facing creative placemaking projects inspired by specific recommendations in the AWLCP draft connected to timber and forest land. These projects will be located at Midpines County Park (pictured below), following recommendations in the Mariposa County Creative Placemaking Strategy.

The Planning Department and the Arts Council are asking interested regional social practice artists, culture bearers and designers of any medium to submit a letter of intent (LOI) that succinctly outlines a proposed project. LOI applications are open until November 24, 2023, and can be found on the Arts Council’s website at www.mariposaartscouncil.org/working-artists.

These LOIs will be reviewed by Mariposa County and Arts Council staff. Artists submitting viable LOIs will be invited to submit a full proposal that will be adjudicated by a panel of Mariposa County staff, artists, and local community members who will make the final artists selections. Panel adjudication, community stakeholder engagement and county approvals will happen in January and February 2024 and successful projects will be installed in Spring 2024.

Interested applicants are invited to a webinar, hosted by The Arts Council, on November 14 at 6:00 p.m. for Q&A and application support. To RSVP, please email Ava Burns at burns@mariposaartscouncil.org
