TRAFFIC ADVISORY 
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Routes 99, 140, & 165 

November 10, 2023 - MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), State Route 99 (SR-99), SR-140, and SR-165 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

INTERSTATE 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through February 29, 2024.

          o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use either the Westley Rest Area (San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line) or the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). Electric vehicle charging stations are available at the Westley Rest Area.

  • Full on and off-ramp closures on northbound SR-99 at Hammatt Avenue Over-Crossing for construction work beginning Sunday, November 13, through Friday, November 17, 2023, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Full on and off-ramp closures on southbound SR-99 at Hammatt Avenue Over-Crossing for construction work beginning Sunday, November 13, through Friday, November 17, 2023, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

  • One-way traffic control at N. Cunningham Road for guardrail work beginning Monday, November 13, through Friday, November 17, 2023, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

 STATE ROUTE 165

  • One-way traffic control from Dove Street to Wolfsen Road for utility work on Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • One-way traffic control from Wolfsen Road to Salt Slough Bridge for pavement work beginning Monday, November 13, through Friday, November 17, 2023, from 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or materials and construction related issues.
