Granite Bay Burglary Suspects in Custody!!

November 18, 2023 - Placer County Sheriff's Office officials report that on November 10, 2023, at 7:10 P.M., Granite Bay residents alerted deputies to the presence of two masked individuals on their security cameras, attempting to break into their house. As deputies arrived in the area, the suspects fled in a black Mercedes SUV at high speeds, making pursuit challenging amid heavy traffic.

Due to the erratic dangerous driving of the suspects posing extreme risk to the public, a helicopter tracked the fleeing vehicle into Sacramento County, near Gerber Rd. and Power Inn Rd., where the suspects hit a sign, disabling the vehicle.

Fortunately, allied law enforcement agencies were  nearby after suspects Placido Lopez-Vargas age 27 , and Angel Emmanuel age 23, fled the scene of the crash. Shortly after, both suspects were taken into custody and have been booked into the Placer County Jail on charges of attempted burglary, felony evading, and conspiracy.

Through the dedicated work of our investigations team, we have been able to connect these two individuals to what the FBI has deemed a South American Theft Group, or SATG, for short. Both individuals arrested this weekend were on an FBI terrorist watch list for being involved in transnational organized crime.

These apprehensions bring the total to five arrests of known transnational theft operations in Placer County over the past year. We have also had approximately twenty burglaries in Placer County with over a million dollars in property stolen consistent with SATG theft practices and methods.

With that said, we also want to express a sincere thank you to all allied agencies involved for their seamless collaboration, ensuring the swift and safe apprehension of these individuals.
