November 23, 2023 - Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office officials report that on November 19, 2023, at 10:28 p.m., Stanislaus Regional 911 received a call regarding an incident involving an adult female and her ex-boyfriend in the 600 block of Santa Fe Avenue in Empire. It was then reported that someone was shot. When deputies arrived at the scene, an adult male was located inside of a vehicle with a gunshot wound and was provided medical aid until fire and ambulance personnel arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Deputies determined 33-year-old Modesto resident Ramiro Gonzalez Cordova was the person who shot the victim but fled the scene in a Dodge Challenger before law enforcement arrived. Multiple units, including the air unit attempted to locate the vehicle, but were unsuccessful.

The Major Crimes Unit responded and took over the investigation with the assistance of Crime Scene Investigators. Detectives worked throughout the night to process the scene and to locate Cordova. They ultimately received a warrant for his arrest for the attempted murder of the 28-year-old victim. Detectives were able to locate Cordova in the city of Dublin. He was arrested for his warrant and was transported back to Stanislaus County where he was booked in jail for attempted murder, with a bail amount of $250,000. He is currently still in custody. The gunshot victim is currently alert, but still in critical condition. There were no other people injured in the incident.
