Senior Military Officers’ Promotions Were Delayed For Months As A Result Of Senator Tuberville’s Blockade On Nominations

December 17, 2023 - WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) has announced that the bipartisan Military Personnel Confirmation Restoration Act, jacky rosen senator nevadawhich she joined, has passed the Senate. This bipartisan bill would grant back pay to military officers whose promotions were held up as a result of Senator Tuberville’s (R-AL) blockade that largely ended last week, commensurate to the date they would have otherwise been promoted.

“As a result of reckless anti-choice political games, our servicemembers and their families were denied their well-deserved promotions, pay raises, and the ability to move their families to their next duty station,” said Senator Rosen. “Now that this blockade has largely ended, it’s critical that we provide back pay for those whose promotions were delayed, and adjust their time in grade. I’m glad to see this bipartisan bill I co-sponsored to do just that, pass the Senate.”

Senator Rosen has been advocating for servicemembers in Nevada by fighting to end Senator Tuberville’s blockade on promotions. Earlier this year, she took to the Senate floor in an attempt to confirm the hundreds of promotions, including the Vice Commander of the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center at Nellis Air Force Base. Senator Tuberville’s holds also prevented the Commander of the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center at Naval Air Station Fallon from receiving his promotion, while doing the job of a higher pay grade he was not receiving. Senator Rosen also recently joined her colleagues on the Senate Armed Services Committee in calling on Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to push Senator Tuberville to end this blockade.
