December 23, 2023 - Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office officials report that on the evening of Thursday December 21st, at about 6:00 p.m. in the evening a deputy took a report of a vandalized vehicle in the area of Carter Street in Tuolumne City. The victim called reporting someone had just shot out the window of his vehicle with a BB gun. At about 6:45 p.m. a second caller reported the driver's side window of her vehicle had been broken. The driver was later contacted and reported she believed her vehicle’s window had also been shot by a BB gun.

Later in the evening, around 8:30 p.m., Deputy Favela was on patrol in the area of Mono Way near Sanguinetti Road when he saw a green Toyota Rav4 matching the description of the Rav4 seen in the surveillance images. Deputy Favela made traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of Mono Way and Greenley Road and contacted the driver, 18-year-old Jacob Demuth of Twain Harte and passenger, 19-year-old Mickey Brewer-Bertola of Sonora.

Demuth and Brewer-Bertola were detained while deputies searched the vehicle. While searching the vehicle deputies found a metal rod, two pistol-styled BB guns and BBs. Through Deputy Favela’s investigation he was able to get a statement from the suspects admitting they had vandalized multiple vehicles within the county.

Demuth and Brewer-Bertola were arrested and transported to the Dambacher Detention Center (DDC) where they were booked on charges of felony vandalism and felony conspiracy to commit a crime.

Later that evening and continuing into this morning, Friday December 22nd, an additional 6 reports of vandalisms to vehicle windows in the area of Tuolumne City and Jamestown have been made. These cases are still actively being investigated.

The suspect seen in the video surveillance image is still outstanding. Anyone with information about vandalisms and the suspect’s identity is urged to contact TCSO at 209-533-5815.
