December 27, 2023 - Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Tuesday, December 26th, 2023, at about 11:00 A.M., deputies located a gray SUV which had been previously reported stolen. The car was first spotted on Rouse Ave. in unincorporated West Modesto.

Deputies attempted to conduct an enforcement stop; however, the driver fled & a short pursuit ensued. In an effort to safely end the pursuit, deputies tried a police intervention technique that caused a patrol car to collide with a utility box on the side of the roadway of Kerr Ave. in the Airport District.

A second deputy then tried to stop the fleeing suspect by ramming the stolen SUV head-on. The suspect car, which was driven by 31-year-old Roberto Daniel Acosta of Modesto, then crashed into a tree and chain link fence where it came to a final point of rest.

Acosta exited the car and fled on foot; although, he was captured shortly thereafter by law enforcement officers. No injuries were reported. Images of the damaged patrol car and stolen SUV are seen below.

Acosta is being booked into the PSC for auto theft, possession of a stolen car, evasion, & violating the terms and conditions of his post release community supervision. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
