TRAFFIC ADVISORY
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures
Interstate 5 and State Routes 33 & 140
December 29, 2023 - MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), State Route 33 (SR-33) and SR-140 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:
INTERSTATE 5
- Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through February 29, 2024.
o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use either the Westley Rest Area (San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line) or the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). Electric vehicle charging stations are available at the Westley Rest Area.
STATE ROUTE 33
- One-way traffic control from Bayview Road to San Luis Wasteway for utility work beginning Thursday, January 4, through Friday, January 5, 2024, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
STATE ROUTE 140
- One-way traffic control at Sullivan Road for guardrail work beginning Tuesday, January 2, through Friday, January 5, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- One-way traffic control at Moomjean Avenue for guardrail work beginning Tuesday, January 2, through Friday, January 5, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- One-way traffic control at Franklin Road for guardrail work beginning Wednesday, January 3, through Friday, January 5, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- One-way traffic control at N. Orchard Drive for striping work beginning Wednesday, January 3, through Friday, January 5, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- One-way traffic control at Rosa Road for utility work on Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or materials and construction related issues.
