Hogue earned an A.A. degree with an emphasis on psychology in 2003. After working and raising a daughter and traveling as a missionary to the Philippines and Mexico (where she assisted on medical teams and clean water projects), she decided to return to Merced College to pursue a business career. She plans to transfer to CSU Riverside next year.
As the first person in her family to earn a college degree, Hogue realizes the importance of education.
“As a student who has been on both sides of success and failure, I can honestly tell you that with pride, motivation, determination, and hope that all things are possible, and I am proof of that,” she said.
Her Business Law professor Dr. Karen Fritz remarked, “When I discovered more about her earlier degree and all of her extra-curricular activities and hardships, I was frankly stunned that she had never been nominated for Student of the Month. It’s long overdue.”
Hogue is a member of the Alpha Gamma Sigma and Phi Theta Kappa honor societies. She has been a student coordinator of the campus Blood Drive, and has assisted with Project Christmas and Relay for Life. She has received scholarships from the Merced College Foundation for her academic achievements and for her positive contributions to her local community.
