January 5, 2024 - National Weather Service Hanford Office officials report a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Sierra Nevada from 10:00 A.M. Saturday morning until 10:00 A.M. Sunday morning.

The majority of this snow will fall Saturday night.

Winds will gust as high as 60 mph on exposed ridgetops and near the crest.

Travel will be extremely difficult or nearly impossible.

If you plan to travel, consider alternate strategies. If you must travel, remember to carry tire chains, plenty of food, a good deal of water, warm clothing, and a flashlight in your vehicle.

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM SATURDAY TO
10 AM PST SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Snow accumulations of up to 10 inches are possible
  above 4,000 feet. Snow accumulations from 12 to 18 inches are
  possible at elevations above 6,000 feet. Localized snow
  amounts of 18 inches or more are possible at elevations above
  8,000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph.

* WHERE...Across the Sierra Nevada.

* WHEN...From 10 AM Saturday to 10 AM PST Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Patchy
  blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Strong
  winds could cause tree damage. The cold wind chills as low as
  20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as
  little as 30 minutes.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow and wind may adversely impact the
  morning and evening commutes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency.
