Deputy Rescues Man Being Assaulted by Armed Assailant

January 7, 2024 - Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office officials report that Deputy McCarty was on patrol on Saturday, January 6th, 2024, at 10:35 a.m. He was driving in the area of Dallas St. & Butte Ave. in unincorporated South Modesto.

Deputy McCarty discovered four adult men attacking a male victim. All four suspects fled the area and discarded the weapon. The victim reported the primary attacker was armed with a firearm. He was later identified as 19-year-old Modesto resident Keynu Bordeau.

Deputy McCarty was able to render aid with the help of others, and Bordeau was safely taken into custody. Further investigation revealed Bordeau was in possession of a loaded, unserialized polymer 80 "ghost gun". He pointed it at the victim, racked the slide to chamber a round & pointed it directly at him. This was when law enforcement arrived.

The victim was able survive his attack with only minor facial injuries and no shots being fired. It is quite possible our deputy saved this man’s life.

Keynu was arrested for several felony charges to include assault with a firearm, brandishing a firearm, being a previously convicted felon in possession of a gun, carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm in public, as well as assault & battery. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center. A picture of the recovered weapon has also been attached.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
