Despite a challenging year, the governor's proposed budget includes prudent investments for DOJ's priorities, including public safety, combatting the fentanyl crises, and climate justice.

January 12, 2024 - OAKLAND, CA – California Attorney General Rob Bonta on Thursday commended Governor Gavin Newsom’s state budget proposal rob bonta california attorney general 2021for its investments into public safety and California's economic, educational, and environmental future. The budget includes critical and prudent funding for priorities like addressing homelessness and housing challenges, tackling the opioid and fentanyl epidemic and putting a stop to organized retail crimes, while building on ongoing efforts to protect California's climate future.

“Despite a challenging budget year, Governor Newsom has proposed a fiscally prudent budget that puts California families first,” said Attorney General Bonta. “The Governor’s proposed budget supports critical efforts at the California Department of Justice to improve Californians’ well-being — from our work to protect public safety, keep our communities safe from emerging threats like fentanyl and organized retail crime, to the essential work of our Housing Justice Team, efforts to hold big oil and big polluters accountable, and ensuring access to quality, equitable education. I look forward to working with our partners in the Legislature to advance our critical funding priorities and finalize a budget that rises to meet the moment.”
