Homicide Investigation and Arrest

January 16, 2024 - Fresno Police Department officials report that on Friday, January 12, 2024, at 8:02 p.m., Southeast Policing District officers responded to the 4500 block of East White Avenue regarding a stabbing victim. Officers found 69-year-old Gary Bishop inside the residence, suffering from a stab wound to his upper body. EMS and Fire personnel provided immediate medical aid and transported Bishop to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. Bishop was unable to survive his wounds and was pronounced deceased at 8:37 p.m.

Homicide detectives learned Bishop resided at the residence with his longtime girlfriend and her adult son, 32-year-old Aaron Brown. Before the stabbing, Brown was upset due to a disagreement between Bishop and his mother over property. Unprovoked, Brown stabbed Bishop in the upper body, killing him. Brown fled the scene after the stabbing. Homicide detectives obtained a warrant for Brown’s arrest. On Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 1:24 a.m., officers located Brown near the downtown area. Brown was taken into custody and booked into the Fresno County Jail for one count of Murder. Although an arrest has been made, detectives are asking anyone with information to please call the Fresno Police Department.

Anyone calling with information can remain completely anonymous by contacting Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP (7867). You may also contact Fresno Police Department – Homicide Detective J. Espinoza at 559-621-2415 or Detective V. Miranda at 559-621-2452.
