TRAFFIC ADVISORY
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures
Interstate 5 and State Routes 99 & 140
January 19, 2024 - MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), State Route 99 (SR-99) and SR-140 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:
INTERSTATE 5
- Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through February 29, 2024.
o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use either the Westley Rest Area (San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line) or the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). Electric vehicle charging stations are available at the Westley Rest Area.
STATE ROUTE 99
- Full on-ramp closure on northbound SR-99 at SR-140/East Separation for graffiti removal on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Full off-ramp closure on northbound SR-99 at G Street Under-Crossing for graffiti removal on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
STATE ROUTE 140
- One-way traffic control at Sullivan Road for guardrail work beginning Tuesday, January 23, through Friday, January 26, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- One-way traffic control at Moomjean Road for striping work beginning Tuesday, January 23, through Friday, January 26, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- One-way traffic control from Schmidt Road for guardrail work beginning Tuesday, January 23, through Friday, January 26, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- One-way traffic control at N. Orchard Drive for striping operations beginning Tuesday, January 23, through Friday, January 26, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- One-way traffic control at Sante Fe Grand Road for guardrail work beginning Wednesday, January 24, through Friday, January 26, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or materials and construction related issues.
