January 29, 2024 - El Dorado County Sheriff's Office officials report that detectives will be conducting extra patrols in different parts of the county due to the upcoming tax season. Crime trends have shown mail theft to rise in the months of January through April and we need your help to stop those trends.
In preparation for the increase of personal information being sent in the coming months, here are some tips to help protect your information:
1: Check your mail daily.
2: Sign up for informed delivery with the USPS Informed Delivery - Mail & Package Notifications | USPS . USPS will usually have scanned copies of your mail, which will be sent to your email.
3: Check the major credit bureaus (such as Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion) for any change in credit history.
4: If you notice suspicious activity in your neighborhood, report it to EDSO dispatch. This is how many of our crimes are solved!
5: Remove personal items from your vehicle daily.
Additionally, the IRS does not accept payment for owed taxes with prepaid gift cards and will not solicit information by telephone.
