Highway 140 Intersection Improvement Project Announcement!

February 9, 2024 - Mariposa County has contracted with Kroeker, Inc. to perform improvements at two intersections within downtown MC 140Mariposa, the Highway 140 and Highway 49 intersection and the Highway 140 and 6th Street intersection.

At Highway 140 and Highway 49, two conduits will be installed, laying the groundwork for future electrical and irrigation needs in preparation for the Gateway Elements Project scheduled to begin this spring. At Highway 140 and 6th Street, the existing storm system will be upgraded in advance of the second phase of the Downtown Renovations Project, also slated for this spring.

The Highway 140 intersection improvement project is scheduled to start on February 12, 2024, and conclude in early March, weather allowing.

Shannon Hansen, Mariposa County Public Works Director, assures residents, “We understand the potential travel and noise impacts of the project and will be working with the contractor to minimize disruptions."

Work is scheduled to occur on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for day work and from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for night work, with Caltrans confirming overnight hours in the near future. Operations will take place in one location at a time to reduce effects on traffic and pedestrians. Traffic diversions and potential short-term closures will occur as part of this project and Mariposa County recommends planning for an extra 5 to 10 minutes for trips to or through town during this time.

Mariposa County Public Works will oversee and inspect the contracted work, and the Mariposa County Public Information office will keep the community updated on the project as it proceeds. The County will also be updating the public GIS map on its website to keep residents informed of roadway closures and delays.

For specific questions, individuals are encouraged to contact Public Works at (209) 966-5356.
