February 26, 2024 - CAL FIRE officials issue safety remember to always switch off portable heaters before bedtime. Opting for an extra blanket is a safer choice than leaving a portable heater running while you sleep.
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) underscores the importance of keeping heating equipment at a safe distance from flammable items like mattresses, bedding, or clothing, as half of home heating fire fatalities stem from this hazard.
Turning off heaters when leaving the room not only reduces fire risks but also safeguards lives and cuts down on unnecessary energy costs when the space is unoccupied.
