freedoms in Hong Kong. Make no mistake: the intention behind this proposal is to use national security as a pretext to further criminalize basic civil rights and suppress pro-democracy voices. This draft legislation must be strongly condemned, just as it was when the same legislation was proposed and defeated two decades ago.“Just four years after Beijing implemented its oppressive national security law, the CCP’s obliteration of ‘one country, two systems’ tragically continues.
