March 31, 2024 - Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office officials report the Calaveras County Search & Rescue (SAR) team successfully completed its annual winter overnight rescue training on March 9-10, 2024. This intensive two-day exercise, held in snowy conditions, was designed to hone the skills necessary for winter rescue operations in the high country of Calaveras County.

The team engaged in a variety of training activities, including avalanche rescue techniques, administering hypothermia treatments, executing complex litter raising and lowering on steep snowy terrains, and establishing overnight shelters for patients. Additionally, the exercise covered essential winter survival skills and various other procedures necessary to safely extract individuals in distress from remote areas.

This year's training highlighted the commitment and expertise of the SAR team members, who volunteer their time and demonstrate significant physical and mental dedication to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals in need.

The Calaveras County SAR remains dedicated to ensuring a high level of readiness to respond to emergencies and conduct successful rescue operations.
