April 10, 2024 - Fresno Police Department officials report on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 4:40 a.m., Southwest officers were at the intersection of Mariposa Street and E Street when they located a 47-year-old unresponsive male. The male appeared to be suffering from severe trauma to his head and upper body and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. He was listed in critical but stable condition and remains hospitalized, receiving medical treatment for his injuries.

Officers on scene reviewed video footage from a nearby business which captured the victim being assaulted by two Hispanic males. Officers learned that approximately two hours prior to their discovery of the victim, the victim was seated near the intersection. Two suspects approached the victim and began to punch and kick the victim multiple times. The suspects also each took turns striking the victim several times in the head and upper body with a large metal object. After the assault, both suspects fled the area on foot in an eastbound direction. Through their investigation, detectives identified the two suspects as 18-year-old Raymond Mendoza and 19-year-old Ernest Oliver. Both suspects, as well as the weapon used in the assault, were located at a nearby apartment complex. Both suspects were arrested and later booked into the Fresno County Jail for Attempted Murder.

Although an arrest has been made in this case, detectives are asking anyone with information regarding the assault to please contact the Fresno Police Department.
