April 11, 2024 - Fresno Police Department officials report on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at approximately 12:14 am, the Fresno Police Department responded to a hit and run vehicle versus pedestrian collision that occurred at Chestnut Avenue and Clinton Avenue.

Officers and medical personnel located the pedestrian within the roadway. Despite life-saving efforts, the pedestrian was declared deceased on scene.

Through video evidence, detectives determined that the suspect vehicle ran over the pedestrian, made a U-turn, and drove back past the collision scene before fleeing. The Collision Reconstruction and Hit and Run Units conducted follow-up and on April 9, 2024, were able to identify and locate the involved vehicle and driver.

The driver was identified as Miguel Ortiz Montilla of Fresno. Ortiz Montilla was arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail on a charge of hit and run involving death.
