Manna House Christmas Dinners
December 22, 2015 - The annual Mariposa County Manna House Christmas Dinner distribution and KOPS for KIDS program was held on Friday, December 18, 2015 at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds.
Rae Sanchez, spokesperson for Manna House said the volunteers, including some of the Mariposa homeless, filled 250 boxes full of complete Christmas dinners for the community. Manna House filled 275 dinners last year and 300 dinners in 2013. Rae also said that Manna House receives most of their donations during November and December. Fifty of the Christmas dinners were going to the residents of Coulterville.
Commenting on the 2015 KOPS for KIDS program, Mariposa County Sheriff Deputy Will Atkinson said this year was the biggest year ever for donations. On Wednesday, December 16th the deputies made the trip down the hill to Walmart in Atwater and spent $14,000 on toys. Other toy donations were provided by the community inside and outside of Mariposa. Out of the 38 brand new bikes that were lined up against the wall, 30 were donated by individuals this year. Deputy Atkinson said the north county Lions Club would pick up some of the toys and deliver them to Coulterville for their annual Christmas in Coulterville on the following Saturday.
