TRAFFIC ADVISORY 
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Routes 59, 99, 140 & 165 

April 19, 2024 – MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5) and State Route 59 (SR-59), SR-99, SR-140 and SR-165 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

INTERSTATE 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through July 31, 2024.

        o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use either the Westley Rest Area (San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line) or the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). Electric vehicle charging stations are available at the Westley Rest Area.

STATE ROUTE 59

  • One-way traffic control from El Nido Road to E Roosevelt Road for pavement work on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • One-way traffic control at Vassar Avenue for pavement work on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • One-way traffic control from 12th Street to 13th Street for pavement work on Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

  • Full on and off-ramp closures on northbound SR-99 at Hammatt Avenue Over-Crossing for striping operations beginning Sunday, April 21, through Friday, April 26, 2024, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Full on and off-ramp closures on southbound SR-99 at Hammatt Avenue Over-Crossing for striping operations beginning Sunday, April 21, through Friday, April 26, 2024, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

STATE ROUTE 165

  • One-way traffic control at Oslo Road for utility work beginning Thursday, April 25, through Friday, April 26, 2024, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or construction related issues.
