Fadzayi Mashiri, the University Of California Cooperative Extension County Director for Mariposa and the Livestock & Natural Resources Farm Advisor for Madera, Mariposa, and Merced Counties is hosting two Succession Planning and Peer Advisory Meetings for area Ranchers.

The first meeting will be held in Madera at the Madera County Government Building on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The second meeting will be held in Mariposa at McCay Hall in Catheys Valley on Thursday, January 14, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Registration is required for either of these two meetings. The cost is $15.00 per person and includes lunch. Registration information can be found on-line @ http://cemariposa.ucanr.edu. You can also register by phone and pay at the door by calling: (209) 966-2417

The Succession Planning presentation will provide producers with tools to better plan and communicate decisions to transfer stewardship of their properties to the next generation in ways that avoid conflict.

After lunch there will be a facilitated open discussion for ranchers to share their experiences: management practices, issues of concern and work together to find solutions to different challenges. Peer Advisory group discussions are a great opportunity for ranchers to reflect on how they have been doing things, and hear alternative approaches used by their peers in hopes that this dialogue can spur new innovations or ideas in the future. Research shows that people learn more from other people experiencing and overcoming similar circumstance. Coming together and discussing common issues helps foster a common vision for the ranching community, which they can work towards as a community.
