Recently, a few students from Erika Miranda’s 5th and 6th grade class at Sierra Foothill Charter School and some of SFCS's home school students met with Home School Coordinator Steph Evans at the Old School House in Catheys Valley Park to help keep history alive. They strung holiday lights, cleaned up, and hung kindness hearts on the kindness tree. If you get a chance to stop by and see it this holiday season, please do. Students gather on the steps of the Old School House with Caroline Wenger Korn (top center, in red) who years ago led the effort in saving the Old School House, having it moved from its original spot on the Catheys Valley school site to its current permanent place in Catheys Valley Park. Ms. Korn is a member of the Historical Society, a Founding Member of SFCS, and an SFCS board member. She also donates much of her time at the school helping students in the garden, with history projects, and in so many other ways. Bianca Rios sweeps in front of the Old School House steps. Autumn Blagg and Celianna Lee place hearts on trees outside the Old School House. The hearts are part of a long tradition from years past where students would write down on a piece of paper the name of someone whom had done them a kindness or who they noticed was always doing something kind for others. The names would then be put on hearts and hung in the Old School House and on trees.
