May 9, 2024 - Madera County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) officials report shortly after 9:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, the Madera County Sheriff’s Emergency Communications Center received a call for service from a man reporting he shot his son following a physical assault. Shortly thereafter, another call came in from the son reporting the shooting. Emergency personnel responded to a residence in the 40000 block of Avenue 14 in Madera.
Based on preliminary information gathered from the scene, MCSO detectives were able to determine a verbal argument between father & son occurred in the garage of the home. The argument turned physical when the son attacked his father, inflicting significant facial injuries. After retreating inside, the son followed and made advances toward him, resulting in the father firing at him, wounding his son in the legs.
Both parties were transported by medical personnel to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries, the son by helicopter and father by ambulance.
This was an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing danger to the public. At this time, there does not appear to be a criminal element to this case, however, our investigation will remain ongoing.
