May 16, 2024 - On Wednesday, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) joined the My Body, My Data Act to create a new national standard to Catherine Cortez Masto Senator nevadaprotect women’s’ reproductive and sexual health data.

“Americans should have confidence that their personal health history won’t be sold or shared without their consent, especially when it comes to information about their reproductive health,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “This legislation will protect women’s data and safeguard the privacy of their personal decisions about their bodies and their futures.”

Currently, few protections exist to prevent personal reproductive health data, or information about people seeking reproductive health services, from being shared with third parties. The My Body, My Data Act would establish a national standard that would limit the amount of health care data that can be collected, retained, used, or disclosed by health apps and websites.

Senator Cortez Masto has been a fierce advocate for women’s reproductive rights. In response to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Cortez Masto introduced the Freedom to Travel for Health Care Act to ensure legal protections for women traveling across state lines to receive reproductive care. She’s championed the Women’s Health Protection Act to guarantee equal access to abortion everywhere. She’s also a cosponsor of legislation to codify the right to contraception, and has urged the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to protect the data privacy of women seeking reproductive care. She has introduced several bills to strengthen data privacy protections for American consumers.
