May 18, 2024 - Madera County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) officials report the Sheriff’s Office has been made aware that on May 16, 2024, Judge Stephanie Jamieson of the Merced Superior Court ruled Ciro Camacho should no longer be classified as a Sexually Violent Predator and ordered him released from the California State Hospital, despite opposing evidence presented by the Merced County District Attorney’s Office.

Camacho was convicted of multiple counts of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child under 14 in 1993. Upon release, Camacho has indicated that he will be residing in Madera County.

Our Office has no influence over the outcome of the hearing nor the decision made. We were not involved in the proceedings and have no authority to challenge or alter the judgement rendered in this case. In the interest of public safety, we feel compelled to share this information with our community.

Madera County Sheriff Tyson Pogue remarks, “We are deeply disappointed in Judge Jamieson’s decision to release Ciro Camacho, particularly in light of the strong opposition by the Merced District Attorney’s Office. Should Camacho relocate to Madera County, we are fully committed to enforcing all state registration requirements and keeping the public informed. Our top priority remains the safety and security of our community members, and we appreciate the Merced District Attorney’s Office advocating for the continued detention of this individual.”
