Wednesday Morning Update per the Sheriff's Office: Suspect Identified - Thank you for your assistance in helping us to identify the person seen in surveillance images. Due to this being an active investigation we will not be releasing any additional information at this time.

May 29, 2024 - Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office officials report on Saturday, May 18th, 2024, around noon, deputies responded to the area of Kreitzer Way near Coffill Rd. in Twain Harte for a report of a burglary to multiple sheds, and a pickup truck stolen from the property. When deputies arrived, they spoke to the victim who reported the suspect(s) had cut padlocks to multiple sheds and stolen a 2000 Honda Generator, a Stihl SF91 weed eater, a Stihl ES90 weed eater and stolen a Dodge Pickup. CHP-Sonora responded to take the stolen vehicle report. While deputies were on scene, 34-year-old Kyle Mitts, came onto the scene, spoke to the victim and deputy and disclosed he was on probation with an ankle monitor.

The following day, deputies reviewed surveillance images of the burglary and saw three people had been on the property during the timeframe of the burglary. The victim and deputies recognized one suspect as Mitts. The other suspects were seen with Mitts at the property throughout the day. Deputies later identified a second suspect as 29-year-old Angelique Dutra. We have not yet identified the third suspect. Over the next week, deputies continued to conduct follow-up investigation and obtained enough information to author a search warrant to look for the stolen property at Mitt’s residence.

On Wednesday May 22nd, the stolen pick-up was recovered by CHP-Sonora on a dirt road in the Long Barn area.

On Monday May 27th deputies served a search warrant at Mitt’s residence. The generator and weed eaters were not located at the residence. Deputies arrested Mitts and Dutra in the area of Sugar Pine RV Park and Highway 108. Mitts and Dutra were transported to the Dambacher Detention Center (DDC) where they were booked on charges of 459 PC – Burglary and 182(A)(1) PC – Conspiracy to commit crime.

This case is still under investigation. Attached to this post are surveillance images showing the unidentified suspect. If you recognize the person in the surveillance images, please contact the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office at 209-533-5815 to assist us in identifying him. Additionally, if you have any information about the burglary or the property taken, please contact us.
