Patrol Check of Former "Camp Hope," Area

May 31, 2024 – Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Wednesday, May 29th, 2024, deputies, in collaboration with Tuolumne County Code Compliance, responded to Stockton Street in Sonora, to the area known as “Camp Hope,” to conduct a patrol check. This patrol check was in response to reports from community members concerned about encampments returning to the “Camp Hope,” area.

Although deputies did not locate any new encampments within the former “Camp Hope,” area, deputies did locate vacant camp sites and a significant amount of trash along the perimeter of the western fence-line. At one of the camp sites deputies located a woman. Deputies gave the woman a trespass warning and notified her of available services and resources. After a record check of the woman found she had an outside agency misdemeanor warrant for her arrest, deputies arrested the woman, and she was booked at the Dambacher Detention Center (DDC) for the warrant.

If you notice an increased law enforcement presence in the area over the coming days, we will be continuing our patrol checks in partnership with allied agencies to ensure anyone located within unlawful encampments are educated on the law and provided all appropriate resources. We thank our community for their concern and partnership in addressing unlawful encampments within our community.
