TRAFFIC ADVISORY 
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Routes 33, 99, 140 & 165 

June 1, 2024 – MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5) and State Route 33 (SR-33), SR-99, SR-140, and SR165 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

INTERSTATE 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through July 31, 2024.

          o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use either the Westley Rest Area (San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line) or the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). Electric vehicle charging stations are available at the Westley Rest Area.

STATE ROUTE 33

  • One-way traffic control from Netherton Road to Newman Wasteway for utility work beginning Monday, June 3, through Friday, June 7, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • One-way traffic control from the San Luis Reservoir Recreational Area to the Delta Mendota Canal for survey work on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

STATE ROUTE 99

  • Full on and off-ramp closures on northbound SR-99 at Hammatt Avenue Over-Crossing for construction work beginning Sunday, June 2, through Wednesday, June 5, 2024, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Full on and off-ramp closures on southbound SR-99 at Hammatt Avenue Over-Crossing for construction work beginning Sunday, June 2, through Wednesday, June 5, 2024, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • Full on and off-ramp closures on northbound SR-99 at Winton Parkway Over-Crossing for construction work beginning Sunday, June 2, through Wednesday, June 5, 2024, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

STATE ROUTE 140

  • Long-term full closure from 5th Street to Fifth Avenue in Gustine for construction work beginning Monday, April 22, 2024, at 6:00 a.m. to Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.
  • One-way traffic control from Linden Avenue to the Gustine Railroad Crossing for curb and gutter work beginning Monday, June 3, through Friday, June 7, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

STATE ROUTE 165

  • Full highway closure from Third Avenue to Canal Drive for Annual Stevinson Pentecost Association Parade on Sunday, June 2, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or construction related issues.
