June 1, 2024 - LAS VEGAS, NV – On Friday, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) sent a letter to President Biden urging him jacky rosen senator nevadato use his executive authority to take immediate action to secure the border, stop the flow of fentanyl into the country, and ensure a humane and orderly asylum process. Her letter comes after Congress once again failed to approve bipartisan border security legislation she supported.

“In the wake of Congress’s failure to put aside partisan politics and pass bipartisan legislation that enhances border security, it is incumbent upon you to finally utilize the power at your disposal to address the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border,” wrote Senator Rosen. “The situation at the border is untenable. In December 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported over 300,000 encounters at the border, more than four times the number of encounters during the same month in 2020.”

“Nevada families have continued to suffer the pain associated with the opioid epidemic due to the flow of fentanyl coming across the U.S.-Mexico border,” she continued. “While Congress fell short of passing this bipartisan border security bill, you have the authority to take executive action to at least begin to address the border crisis and provide relief to hardworking immigrant families already here in the U.S.”

The full text of the letter can be found HERE.

Senator Rosen has consistently worked across the aisle to secure the border and stop the flow of fentanyl. Earlier this month, she again voted in favor of bipartisan legislation to strengthen border security, restore an orderly and humane asylum process, and stop the flow of deadly drugs like fentanyl. Rosen also joined an effort urging Senate Appropriators to provide robust funding for border security and drug interdiction initiatives in the next annual funding bill, including support for CBP to hire additional officers. Last month, the bipartisan FEND Off Fentanyl Act Senator Rosen co-sponsored was signed into law, requiring the President to sanction drug rings involved in international drug trafficking. Earlier this year, her bipartisan END FENTANYL Act was signed into law, which will help crack down on drug smuggling.
