Gang Member Arrested for Weapon Charges 

June 2, 2024 – Merced, CA – Merced Police Department officials report that they remain steadfast in their mission to combat gun and gang violence within the community. Building on the momentum from the recent Red Rooster operation, MPD is dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of our residents.

On May 31, 2024, at approximately 5:52 P.M. (1752 hours), MPD Gang Violence Suppression Unit (GVSU) Officer Lopez observed Craig Turner, a known gang member, in the 1100 block of Loughborough Drive. Tuner was wanted on a felony warrant.

Upon spotting Officer Lopez, turner attempted to flee on foot. During the pursuit, Turner discarded a firearm in the 1000 block of Loughborough Drive. After a brief chase, Turner was apprehended without further incident. Turner is a documented gang member and is legally prohibited from possessing firearms. He was arrested on his outstanding felony warrant as well as for weapon charges. Turner was subsequently transported and booked into the Merced County Jail.
