16-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Shaver Lake 

June 9, 2024 – Fresno County Sheriff's Office officials report that at around 12:40 p.m. on Sunday, dispatchers received a call of a teenage boy who jumped off a pontoon boat into Shaver Lake and did not resurface.  The 16-year-old was wearing a life jacket, but it somehow came off when he entered the water.

Boating deputies, who were already on their weekend patrol assignment, responded to the area, which is located near the island at Camp Chawankee.  There was no immediate sign of the boy.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office Dive Unit DIVE team were called out and entered the water.  At 1:50 p.m., a diving team member recovered the young man’s body from approximately 15 feet below.

This remains an ongoing investigation.  Deputies are interviewing witnesses to get a better understanding of the overall situation.
