June 16, 2024 – Shafter Police Department officials report that on June 11 at about 9:20 P.M., Shafter Police Department officers Shafter PDresponded to the Chevron convenience store located in the 6600 block of E. Lerdo Highway after receiving a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred. Officers were provided with suspect descriptions and the suspect vehicle’s description. Upon officers’ arrival, they confirmed an armed robbery had occurred with a firearm and that there was a monetary loss from the business.

Officers confirmed two suspects had committed the robbery and had fled in a white sports utility vehicle toward Highway 99. Shafter Police officers initiated a safety broadcast to surrounding allied agencies with the suspects’ descriptions and the suspects’ vehicle description. A few minutes later, the Shafter Police Department learned the suspect vehicle was being pursued by the Bakersfield Police Department and that it was a reported stolen vehicle taken during a carjacking just a short time earlier from Bakersfield.

The Bakersfield Police Department, with assistance from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Air-1 and patrol units, pursued the suspect vehicle and eventually took the two suspects into custody and seized the outstanding firearm and monetary loss. The suspects were identified as juveniles and transferred to the custody of the Kern County Probation Department’s Juvenile Hall on several charges. The charges included robbery, assault with a firearm, and conspiracy. Anyone having additional information regarding this case is asked to contact Detective Kinkade at 661-746-8500 and reference case #24-1189.

The Shafter Police Department would like to thank the Bakersfield Police Department and the Kern County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with this investigation.
