January 16, 2016 - Washington—Senate Intelligence Committee Vice Chairman Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement after Iran released several U.S. prisoners:
Dianne Feinstein
“Reports that four Americans are being released from captivity in Iran is a welcome development. These Americans were imprisoned on fabricated charges and should never have been detained in the first place. While long overdue, their release is a positive step by Iran. Additional reports that a fifth American is also being released to come home—a recently-detained student—is also good news.

“I’m still reviewing the details of the prisoner swap, which reportedly includes the release of seven Iranians arrested for sanctions violations. Another 14 Iranians wanted for sanctions violations will no longer be pursued.

“I believe that it is possible to have an improved and constructive relationship with Iran. I hope this signals just that. My thanks to those in Iran who have made this swap possible and to Secretary Kerry for pursuing it successfully."

“I continue to call on Iran to do everything in its power to return American Robert Levinson to the United States.”
