June 25, 2024 - Nationwide, there are currently 15 uncontained large fires being fully suppressed, and 21 being managed under strategies 
other than full suppression. Approximately 6,400 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents across the country. So far in 2024, 20,176 wildfires have burned 2,223,801 acres. While the number of wildfires is below the 10-year average, the acres burned is above the 10-year-average of 1,553,112.
Complex incident management teams are assigned to the South Fork and Salt Fires in New Mexico, the Pioneer Fire in Washington, and the Oak Ridge Fire in Colorado. A type 1 incident management team is assigned to the Post Fire in California.
The national predictive services staff at the National Interagency Coordination Center released the National Significant Wildland Fire Potential Outlook for June through September. For additional information about the current outlook visit the Outlook page on the NICC site.
As we approach the most firework-heavy holiday weekend of the summer, remember: Fireworks have no place on your public lands. Even consumer fireworks carry serious risks. Sparklers, which may seem child-safe, burn as hot as 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit and can cause third-degree burns. Despite the dangers of fireworks, few people understand the associated risks - burns, other injuries, wildfires, and even death. We all play a role in safety. Above normal temperatures will continue across California into the Great Basin and northern Rockies, with breezy westerly sustained winds of 10-25 mph and gusts 25-40 mph amid relative humidity of 8-20% for the northeastern Great Basin and Wyoming. Cooler temperatures and lighter winds are forecast in the Northwest, but mid-level moisture may move northward in California for isolated dry thunderstorms in central California after midnight tonight. Cooler temperatures are forecast in the Mid-Atlantic, but breezy northwest winds will develop on the east side of the Appalachians to the Mid-Atlantic coast. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue across the Southwest, with isolated thunderstorms into the central Rockies. Showers and thunderstorms will develop across the northern Plains and Upper Midwest, where some thunderstorms will be severe. Isolated to scattered wet thunderstorms will develop near the Gulf and Southeast coasts as well. Isolated thunderstorms will develop today across southwest and south-central Alaska, while above normal temperatures continue across the state with afternoon relative humidity as low as 15% in the central and eastern Interior. Moderate trade winds will continue across Hawai’i with scattered windward showers.
