Mariposa County Begins Phase 2 of Downtown Renovations Project

June 29, 2024 – Mariposa, CA – Mariposa County officials report that they are set to begin Phase 2 of the Downtown Renovations Project in early July 2024, thanks to a $6.3 million grant the County secured from the Economic Development Administration/Department of Commerce. This phase will bring significant improvements to 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and Bullion Streets, focusing on repaving streets, replacing and adding sidewalks and lighting, enhancing storm drainage, refreshing landscaping, and upgrading public parking lots.

Phase 2 will be carried out by contractor George Reed, Inc., with work taking place on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Due to the scope and nature of the work, some locations may experience brief closures or one-lane access during construction. Work on Bullion Street may require full closure during the day, with one-lane access at night.

To minimize the impact on local businesses and residents, Mariposa County will provide 72-hour notices to affected properties before starting work and will coordinate directly with businesses and residents to ensure they maintain necessary access during construction. Mariposa County Public Works will oversee and inspect the contracted work, and the Mariposa County Public Information Office will keep the community updated on the project as it proceeds. The County will also update the public GIS map on its website to keep residents informed of roadway closures and delays.

Public Works Director Shannon Hansen expresses her enthusiasm for the project, stating, "I am extremely excited about the upgrades this will bring to downtown Mariposa." She added, "We recognize the potential for travel and noise impacts, and we are committed to closely partnering with the contractor to mitigate these disruptions whenever possible."

Hansen further explains, “With these new renovations, our community is going to enjoy a more vibrant, inviting, and flood resilient downtown area, enhancing the quality of life for all residents.”

For any inquiries or clarifications, individuals are encouraged to reach out to the Public Works department at (209) 966-5356.
